The Shipping Record shows that Andrew was 29, and he gave his occupation as Baker; Sarah was 25 and was recorded as a Dressmaker. Alice was one and three quarter years old. Both parents were recorded as Protestants; both could read and write. Thus they escaped from poverty, the threat of violence, typhus and the rats of Bolton. The name Stott appears in profusion in a War Tax Return made in Hundersfield, north-west of Rochdale, in , together with the name of Hamer in the same area. Rochdale is an ancient town which is recorded in the Domesday Book as Recedham. The Entwistle family, who in the nineteenth century became very influential industrialists in the Rochdale district, originated from Foxholes, in the Parish of Wardleworth, the same parish from which the Hamers came, only a short distance from the Entwistles on the opposite side of Hey Brook.

Victoria Continuing the trend with our new form of activism the Victorian lads got together for another banner drop this month. This time it was over the Greensborough bypass. Banner drops are a fantastic form of activism as it allows for hundreds of people driving by to see your message as well as gauge reactions to it.
Everyone driving past saw our large swastika banner and we even have many of them give us the salute in a show of support to our message. As part of the country wide postering we had each local region organise a postering in nearby universities, spreading our message to 5 campuses state wide – Victoria University in Footscray, Federation University in Ballarat, Federation University in Berwick, La Trobe University in Mildura, and La Trobe University in Bendigo.
All in all over posters were distributed in the coordinated action. Queensland The work from last month has continued for Queensland. As much as building a larger group is important, we have been focusing heavily on reading and exercise. With the rest of the country, we participated in the nationwide hit. A festival of filth was thrown that Sunday, Fair Day.

Conventions and forums involving colony leaders were held on a regular basis. Proponents of New South Wales Wales as a free trade state were in dispute with the other leading colony Victoria, which had a protectionist economy. At this time customs posts were common on borders, even on the Murray River. Edmund Barton, later to become Australia’s first Prime Minister, was another strong advocate for federation and a meeting held in Corowa Corowa in drafted an initial constitution.
All votes resulted in a majority in favour, but the New South Wales Wales government under Premier George Reid popularly known as “yes—no Reid” because of his constant changes of opinion on the issue had set a requirement for a higher “yes” vote than just a simple majority which was not met.

It is almost as if nothing else can or needs to be said. The Report does speak for itself. The five-year culmination of public and private hearings, voluminous submissions and documents and countless commentaries has left a landmark testament to the history of sexual abuse of children in institutions, most markedly in my own Catholic Church.
When I began this journey I often said that the history of the sexual abuse of children within the Church was confronting and shameful.

Link A photo of the Darwin bombings in Although Darwin’s defences had been upgraded, they were far from adequate. There were not enough anti-aircraft AA guns and machineguns, and training had been reduced because of ammunition shortages. It was later concluded there should have been more than twice the number of AA guns to fend off a large attack. The operational RAAF squadrons were overseas. But the RAAF had little more than obsolete or lightly armed patrol aircraft and a radar installation was not operational.
There has always been a cloud over the defence personnel. Though the rank-and-file servicemen were no different from anywhere else, it has been claimed some of the army officers were there because nobody else wanted them. The posting lacked the romance and adventure that might have been felt being dispatched overseas. It was a hot, sticky, tropical outpost with serious morale problems and fear, especially as Darwin’s population of about had been reduced by the evacuation of women and children.
What little chance the defence forces had to prepare was marred by complacency. Advertisement There were two warnings, from a coast-watcher on Melville Island at 9.

The warning comes as the NSW Government officially labelled the Tweed Coast koala as “endangered” with current animal numbers unable to sustain the population’s ongoing viability. Prominent Uki-based ecologist Dr Steve Phillips, who has worked exhaustively with Tweed Shire Council groups and koala advocates over the last 20 years surveying koalas, estimated this week there were only about koalas left in what was once a healthy population.
Contributed “In our society we hear the word ‘endangered’ so often we become numb to it, but this is real, it’s happening right now,” Dr Phillips said. He said three major fire events between and in the Cudgen and Kings Forest areas were thought to have halved koala numbers, along with animals killed by cars and domestic dogs. He suggested raising Clothiers Creek Rd to allow three to four underpasses, with 3km of fencing to funnel the animals’ movements.
Another option is to install a sign which flashes when a koala is present. Clothiers Creek Rd was the site of at least eight animal deaths a year with the existing warning sign not succeeding in preventing the carnage. Captured January, north-east of Black Rocks sports field and transported to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital this koala had severe conjunctivitis, bilateral ovarian cysts and gastrointestinal tract problems.
